Oh boy…and I escape into reading…

Ok, I can (almost) live with the typical Republican crackpot economic “theory” that somehow tax cuts will lead to more jobs. There is a lot of evidence against such claims, but..

Now we’ve gotten to the point where they run fake investigations to cover up genuine evidence of much more serious things.

And we have “our president” tweeting such stupid, dangerous things:

And there are millions and millions (perhaps 30-40 percent of the population) who see such behavior as acceptable or even good.

I live in a very stupid country: millions of citizens cannot distinguish a Dirty Harry movie from reality.

How did we get here? Well, we are still searching for explanations of how many voted for Trump. However one well known hypothesis was fueled by bad data (no, Trump didn’t win every income level, not even every white income level). I still think that white nationalism was a big factor but think that such appeals do not work as well with highly educated voters.

Other stuff:

It was a pretty moon last night.

workout notes: still off and my preworkout weight (with shoes and shirt/shorts) was up to 209 again (Indian last night)

usual PT
pull ups: 4 sets of 10; final set was 7-1-1-1 (brutal)
bench press: 10 x 135, 4 x 190, 4 x 185
incline press: 10 x 140
military press: 2 sets of 10 x 50 dumbbell (standing), 10 x 45
rows: 3 sets of 10 x 200 (Hammer)
then 2 miles of walking (32:22), 1 mile with Dave 9:04 (4:40/4:24); he admitted to picking it up a bit when I ran with him.

  1. It’s crazy, but there is a key context to remember. It’s also crazy that a tin pot dictator is well on his way to gaining a strategically operational atom splitting weapon. I don’t like this confrontation particularly in reference to the already overwhelming amount of conventional weapons that can hit Seoul but I honestly don’t see it as worse than the deal that was put in place that arguably gave NK the financial resources to develop them.

It certainly isn’t the move I’d make but I appreciate the “rational in context” point of view that really does lie behind it.

    • Disagree. People (liberals and conservatives alike) are trying to make his tweeting into some 3-dimensional chess game. I say he is acting like he always has: like a delusional, ignorant narcissist.

      • My argument is that Trump is playing 1D chess but sometimes that makes him right. We are all 1D hominins… we all play a 1D game on some level. We’ve been learning how to play 2D and sometimes more, so 1D chess looks ridiculous even though it is the basic game – and if we don’t understand it our 2D game starts to break down.

We thought we were playing 2D chess with NK and figured out some moves where everything would work out for sure. But really we went off the board and handed a 1D player a potential 3D piece. If I could play time chess and go back to 1995 or so and put Trump in to play 1D I’d probably do that. At this point I think it isn’t so unreasonable to still try 1D, it just looks ultra crazy from the 2D perspective especially since we’ve even played off the board and played some 0D chess and don’t realize that either.

Yup, so that’s my theory of Trump, the greatest Trump chess theory of all. I think there’s a sort of basic mistake we’ve made in hating the basic game and trying to play away from it on our new level. So I think that social values like unity and authority and even (or perhaps particularly) belief enabled the construction of “2D” societies. You might say old testament values. But when we realized some of those things weren’t real we assumed it was all ridiculous and that the basic game was awful – basically varying levels of DNA constructs in conflict. So, recently, we’ve chosen some ideals like diversity and equity and tried to play the whole game in that space. And we fall off the board. Trump is saying we can’t play that far out away from the social unity of “American-ness” – people who start falling off the board over there in diversity space won’t become better people but actually go straight back to 0D tribalism. So really Trump is playing on levels of 1 1/2D and this is why people are so in to it.

Partly it’s because the game really isn’t so terrible. We built it up to a new testament level and also a level where an unbelievable section of the game called science started happening. Compared to 1D there’s amazing value in 1 1/2D and 2D games. Even the 1D game really isn’t so bad. I think we have an off-kilter view of evolution. When we brought wolves back to Yellowstone it changed the ecosystem right down to an increase in the vegetation. Even a wolf doesn’t live in necessary opposition to her environment like we might think nowadays. And yet we live in societies where people have been assuming even men and women live in some kind of essential conflict that has to be fought tooth and nail – even though from one generation to the next, on average a woman’s DNA will continue on in a man half the time and vice versa. I think it’s because of that one idea about evolution of “survival of the fittest”. It’s a bad description for the whole thing. What we haven’t realized is that creativity really is a good word for the creations and workings of evolution and the social creations of human society.

  2. I know that NK has increased provocative behavior under Trump’s watch and made war more likely…and the death of potentially hundreds of thousands. I do not see that as good;
