And so come the “thoughts and prayers”….

And those mean absolutely nothing. This is not an anti-religion rant; I honestly believe that some religious practices (personal prayer, meditation, yoga, ritual) can help the individual doing the practice and that the said individual might be challenged to do more for others. I know of religious people whose personal ministry and charity put me to shame.

But prayers won’t keep gun massacres from happening; some well thought out gun laws and enforcement might.

Prayers won’t stop a hurricane nor repair the damage from one. But better environmental policy might reduce the strength and/or number of future hurricanes, and paying attention to our emergency response teams (staffing them with the best people we’ve got and funding them properly) might help us respond better.
