My takeways from the Brexit vote

1. The polls predicted a close outcome. But as of a few days ago, “stay” was a 3-1 to 4-1 favorite in the sports books. Bottom line: pay attention to BOTH. Note: Clinton is doing well in both; Trump: not so much.

2. Yes, the “young people” wanted to stay, but…didn’t show up when it came time to vote. It is useless to rely on them.

  1. Ollie,

You’ve pretty much hit the nail bang on the head…………….this is a very bad thing for the UK !

The Leave decision was entirely a victory of ill-informed, narrow-minded, short-sighted intellectual laziness, won by appealing to the most unpleasant aspects of human nature in the most feeble minded of the population……………………..very similar to the Trump approach. (Samuel Johnson did say that patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel, but it obviously works).

If I were religious (which I’m clearly not, and we can leave that to other websites šŸ™‚ ), I would say that there’s something almost biblical in the air at the moment:

    – The UK has made a calamitous decision based on the empty rhetoric of demagogues
    – The economy has immediately crashed with little chance of recovery any time soon (i.e. decades)
    – The Prime Minister has resigned, leaving us with an even more unpalatable choice of replacements (a bit like which pile of shit smells the least bad….)
    – The opposition is tearing itself apart, leaving no-one to credibly hold them to account or temper any bad decisions

    – To cap it all off, there is a chance that Trump could become US President !

Truly it must be the End of Days !!!!
