April 9: Happy Union Victory Day!

April 9, 1865. That is the day that the traitor Robert E. Lee surrendered his forces to General U. S. Grant. There were a couple of other surrenders to go but this was basically the end. Some parts of our country haven’t fully accepted it, even now. Though the war killed about 750,000 thousand soldiers and perhaps wounded 1.2 million more, remember our country was much smaller then. A similar death toll in 2015 (percapita) would be about 7.5 million soldiers dead and 12 million wounded. Add to that the civilian loss of life.

The article I linked to discusses some of the reconstruction and some of the white southern terrorism that went on afterward.
