Blog Roll Notes
As of March 20, 2010, I went through my longer blogroll and deleted links that no longer work. Be advised that some blogs have not been updated and others have been moved, but you can get to the new address via the old one.
I've read and visited all of these sites at one time or another. However, I've decided to post a separate list of those blogs which I read regularly (some daily, others periodically).

Ollie, I have this whole theory about gun violence and the US that I’ve been trying to put into the right words. Basically, I think there are certain qualities that we associate with America, such as being independent (vs. a more collectivist society) and the belief in self-determination. While these can be good qualities, I think the negative aspect of that is valuing guns as a means of solving/controlling a situation. I don’t think I’m explaining it very well, but do you understand what I mean? That’s why I don’t think that gun laws or even increased access to mental health will solve the problem of gun violence.
I think people are reacting emotionally to a horrible event and doing something makes them feel better about it. Like they have some control over the situation or like something good is coming out of the tragedy.
Unfortunately, I think a lot of the responses, like gun buy-backs, or Washington Co High School’s proposal to arm administrators, aren’t really effective in reducing violence, just in making those involved feel better.
