If Barack Obama really believed in his jobs bill, he should have presented it in a leather-bound volume with gold filigree and illuminated initials.

Rick Perry’s HPV Vaccine Mandate – The Colbert Report – 2011-14-09 – Video Clip | Comedy Central

If Americans let the government mandate the HPV vaccine, they might as well let the U.N.’s jackbooted thugs inject their daughters with pharmaceutical-grade slut juice.

Dawkins’ Children’s book…

Workout notes 2 Over lunch I walked the Markin to the Cornstalk loop (54:47; about 4.2 miles) 13:39 out, 12:38 back (about 1 mile to the loop). It was cool and I wore walking shoes instead of running shoes; it makes a difference.

Science
I just love the “does it concern you that there are stupid people out there…” (about 8:05 into it)

CNN/Tea Party Republican Debate – The Colbert Report – 2011-13-09 – Video Clip | Comedy Central

These debates are supposed to help Americans find the Republican presidential candidate, but they have already helped them find his running mate: the Grim Reaper.

14 September 2011

The headline of this blog post by Jerry Coyne worthy of spreading:

HPV vaccine: Republicans prove themselves morons once again

This is a prime example of how religion, and its willful ignorance of facts in favor of faith, can be deadly. In Monday’s debate between Republican presidential candidates, Michele Bachmann laid into Texas governor Rick Perry’s order that female students in Texas be vaccinated against the HPV virus, which causes cervical cancer.[...]

Hey…just saying……Dr. Coyne is a professor the University of Chicago BIOLOGY department. Not that this means anything to anyone. :)

Speaking of the harm that religion does:

You have the people flying the planes into the building to begin with, people who aren’t at risk of being burned to death making moral judgements and of course, those who said that “the hand of God” was present because….wait for it…even more weren’t killed in the attack. (no, I am not making that up; I received that in a viral e-mail message).

Believing that a deity interferes in the events of the world or supplies some “after life” punishments or rewards is a crackpot idea, period.
And it is NOT a harmless one!

Ron Paul 2012 – The Colbert Report – 2011-13-09 – Video Clip | Comedy Central

What Ron Paul really needs is a credible national endorsement to give his campaign the kind of legitimacy his campaign has not been able to get from his campaign.

I am very important and popular!!!!

(click if you can’t read this).

Who would have guessed that I would be so special?

Note: yes, I have given money to the Obama campaign and will continue to do so (small donations) and I have NOT given to the Romney campaign. If Obama were to drop out of the race and we were to run a very weak, very conservative Democrat, I might consider giving to Huntsman. I don’t agree with him on much but I actually like the guy and think that he is competent.

Workout notes
The lifeguard at the 7 am swim showed up late (7:10); by then I had taken off my swimsuit and was preparing to walk.
So I redressed and ended up swimming:
20 x (25 fist, 25 swim); 10:15 for the first 500, 9:45 for the second.
1000: didn’t get my splits save the one at 750 (13:19) and finished in 17:47. Not great, but enough to be exercise
200 cool down.

Good news: my shoulder didn’t hurt. :)

NY-9 AND NY-26

Together they might mean something. How much?

Nate Silver has an analysis here.

Upshot: The R’s have won 3 of 4 special elections in the House (though they lost one in a heavily R district). D’s have picked off two Wisconsin state senators. Though these results constitute a small number of data points, they are consistent with 2010.

This is encouraging …..

Jon Huntsman’s staff is unhappy with some of the behavior at Republican debates:

The behavior by some members of the audience at the most recent Republican presidential debates has at least one campaign staffer concerned about the future of the GOP.

Sarah Reidy, the national director of scheduling for Jon Huntsman’s presidential campaign, had some stern words for her own party after the audience at a debate in California applauded the number of executions during Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s tenure, and then some in the crowd at a debate in Florida cheered when the moderator asked if a sick person without insurance should be left to die.

In a post on her Facebook page, Reidy, who joined Huntsman’s campaign in August but was not speaking on its behalf in this instance, said the behavior made her “sick and sad” for the Republican party.

“For years I have tried to prove that the GOP isn’t the Party of elitist, stereotypical people that lack compassion,” Reidy wrote on her Facebook account Tuesday. “When did creativity and growth become secondary to hate? Hearing the debate crowds go crazy over things like executions and the uninsured dying makes me sick and sad for my Party that I devote my time and efforts.”

(hat tip: Billy Dennis)

I look forward to having a Teddy Roosevelt or a Dwight Eisenhower to pick from. One party having a lock on my vote (on sanity grounds) is unhealthy.
