Back to Bessel functions in a few minutes; Olivia and I got back from a 1:15 hike (3.5 mile course which included two wicked hills)

A few quips:

Oklahoma: Here is State Representative Sally Kern:

I was thinking of a feature called “Wingnut of the Week,” but they’re coming at us so fast and furiously that “Wingnut of the Day” seems more appropriate. Welcome back to Liberaland, Sally Kern, the Oklahoma state legislator who said last year that homosexuality is our biggest threat, “even more so than terrorism or Islam.”

Kern’s latest venture into wingnuttia is the “Oklahoma Citizen’s Proclamation For Morality”. Here

are some of the WHEREASES

[...]
WHEREAS, grieved that the Office of the president of these United States has refused to uphold the long held tradition of past presidents in giving recognition to our National Day of Prayer; and

WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States disregards the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior;

So the premise is that the good Christians who founded this nation are being disregarded by a new era of immorality led by the gays, the abortionists and a president who doesn’t promote clean and pure living.

BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, humbly call upon Holy God, our Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer, to have mercy on this nation, to stay His hand of judgment, and grant a national awakening of righteousness and Christian renewal as we repent of our great sin.

Things don’t get better at the Federal Level: here the biggest clown in the senate (Jim Inhofe) calls Senator Elect Al Franken a clown.

From Senator Inhofe:

Inhofe has previously compared people who believe in global warming to Hitler’s Third Reich and called “An Inconvenient Truth” a “science fiction” movie.

At least Mr. Franken’s comedy was intentional.

Wingnuttery for liberals: Chris Kelly explains Governor Sanford’s seemingly incomprehensible behavior to us:

God is My Doorman: Mark Sanford for Non-Christians

One thing Mark Sanford isn’t doing is resigning. Why? Because God Himself wants Mark Sanford to stay on as Governor of South Carolina. Just ask Mark Sanford:

“Immediately after all this unfolded last week I had thought I would resign – as I believe in the military model of leadership and when trust of any form is broken one lays down the sword. A long list of close friends have suggested otherwise – that for God to really work in my life I shouldn’t be getting off so lightly.”

And if anyone knows about getting off, it’s Mark Sanford.

But more importantly, the Almighty insists that Mark Sanford stay in office. South Carolina is his punishment. Like when Job got boils.

And the citizens get to help God help Mark Sanford be a better man. Which I think we can all agree is what public service is all about.

“While it would be personally easier to exit stage left, their point has been that my larger sin was the sin of pride.”

That and years and years of adultery. But mostly pride.

Here’s what I always thought I kind of missed out on as a Catholic, instead of whatever horseshit Mark Sanford practices: Self-diagnosis. When it came to sin, we didn’t get to call our own balls and strikes like that.

“If I walked in with a real spirit of humility then this last legislative term could well be our most productive one – and that outside this term, I would ultimately be a better person and of more service in whatever doors God opened next in life if I stuck around to learn lessons rather than running and hiding down at the farm.”

Again, what else can we do for you, Gov. Sanford? I’m glad the taxpayers have this chance to let you improve yourself, but is that enough? Next time you’re boning someone in South America, can we hold your dick?

THAT may well be the true value of religion: you get to make up stuff to rationalize what you did! hey, “God” wills you to do that, and who are we to deny that “God” spoke to you?
:)

Sarah Palin: nice article in Vanity Fair. I think that the article was way too kind; for example she was terrible in her debate with Joe Biden. But expectations were so low, all she had to do is to not sound like Inspector Clouseau and she would have been given credit.

Here is a somewhat more flattering article about her (and her running).

Now THAT is a good Cross Country Run!

Ok, this is after a cross country run. But such sights are common after trail runs too.

Two laundry cycles are good. :)

Ok, who is this clown?

For those who are unfamiliar, Michael Sheuer was head of the Bin Laden unit at CIA under Clinton and Bush. That’s right, the lunatic who thinks America’s last hope is that Osama bin Laden knocks some sense into us is the same guy whose old job was to protect us from Osama bin Laden.

And yes, the logic behind this combined with the actual statement is enough to make me nauseous.

So, let me get this straight. Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News put someone on air that said, out loud, that the only thing that can save America from the politicians who the media (not including Fox “Traitor” News) and our allies respect is a massive attack by Osama bin Laden that forces the citizens of America to demand a more violent government?

Note the theme: more money and more support for violence to “keep Americans safe”.

Now let’s look at a seemingly unrelated issue: health care.

What is the trouble with getting universal health care that will, ahem, keep Americans safe?

Cost, say the Republicans (and some DINOS)

Spending money to bomb, kill and to take away our civil liberties to “keep us safe”: good.
Spending money to keep people from dying due to a lack of health care: bad.

So it goes. (apologies to Kurt Vonnegut; I am reading Slaughterhouse Five at the moment)
