To My Readers:
Happy Holidays!

Oh yes, it is 73 F in Austin, TX, as I type this.

Of course, other bloggers celebrate different holidays in different ways.
Christmas Eve 2008
Workout notes 2 miles at Barton Springs; air temperature was in the high 40s low 50s; water at 68 F. The first lap was the slowest (8:5x); 34:57 for the first mile, 34:53 for the second for 1:09:50.
I’ve got a scratchy throat on the trip here and had a slight cough yesterday. This morning my throat is scratchy and the slight cough remains; not sure if it is allergies or a cold. My swim wasn’t that bad though.
Later: I took Olivia out for about a 2 mile walk on the Hike and Bike.
Football

I watched TCU beat Boise State 17-16 last night.
For the first 8 minutes of the first quarter, the Broncos dominated; they moved the ball easily and bottled up the Frog offense.
But then TCU started to move the ball fairly well; but the Boise State defense kept coming up with big plays (interceptions) to thwart the Frogs.
The Broncos ran back an interception to the TCU 11 but had to kick a field goal to go up 13-0; the Frogs scored on the drive after that and took momentum, though they were down 13-7 at the half.
But in the third quarter, Boise State got the ball deep but had to settle for a field goal try; they missed and TCU controlled the game after that.
Nevertheless they still trailed 13-10 going into the 4′th quarter.
TCU scored on a long drive to go up 17-13; Boise answered with a drive that produced a field goal with about 4:30 to play.
TCU made a drive but had to punt with 1:50 left in the game; BSU still had one time out.
But an interception allowed the Frogs to run out all but 7 seconds on the clock; a final “pass followed by laterals” play failed.
So, TCU won the scrimmage line battle but BSU’s big defensive plays kept them in it the whole game.
