Football Saturday 15 November 2008

I felt good after my hill workout; now I am feeling the effort.

I am watching Navy vs. Notre Dame on one screen and Texas-Kansas on the other screen.

Navy had tied ND with a nice 60 yard drive (all on the ground); Navy stated the drive with a counter fullback plunge. Navy then got an interception (via a hit on the ND quarterback) but then fumbled it right back. Hence ND leads 10-7 at the half.

ND had taken control and was up 27-7; Navy responded with a long drive to cut it to 27-14 and has recovered an onside kick. Still, there are only 1:36 left in the game.

What appears to have happened is that, while up 24-7, ND started to run and work on the clock. Then again, there was a huge rainstorm and passing would have been risky.

Woah, Navy just completed a long pass to about the 1 and the refs have given Navy a TD, but I wonder if this stands up on replay. My guess is that Navy gets the ball at the 1.

Hey, I almost gave on up this game. :)

Yes, Navy’s ball at the one; the quarterback sneak is stuffed; second and goal but only 1:22 left.
The next one works; it is now 27-21; ND got a roughing the kicker penalty so Navy tries the onside a bit closer; still there are no time outs left for Navy.

OMG!!!! Navy gets the onside kick, AGAIN; now at the ND 42.

Now Navy it at the 34 on a scramble. A near miss on an incompletion so now it is 3rd down and 3. A keeper off the option gets the first down. Now there are 39 seconds left; second down as Navy spiked the ball to stop the clock. Oh oh, a sack now it is 3rd down. Navy calls a time out but do they have one left? Yes.

Incomplete pass in the end zone; 26 seconds left. Navy can still get a first down, which was what I’d try for. Incomplete pass; oh well; Navy sure made it exciting. ND takes a knee and runs out the clock.

Texas leads Kansas 7-0 in the second quarter and had recovered a fumble; but UT threw an interception and Kansas is driving; hey big sack to kill he drive.

Texas drives it down and goes up 14-0 with 44 seconds left in the half. it looks as if that will be the half-time score.

Update: Texas is now up 35-7 and has taken complete control.

I’ll be updating this throughout the day and hope to embellish with yahoo photos.

  1. Tx is 21-0 now and we’re watching the N’Western game which looks like it’s cold, cold, cold there. But N is winning right now. :-) Frank switches between every game that’s on so sometimes I don’t know who we’re watching unless I recognize the uniforms. ;-p
