Barack Obama Gives McCain a Dose of His Own Medicine

John McCain launched this Spanish language ad:

So Barack Obama countered and the Republicans are screaming bloody murder. Here is Obama’s Spanish Language ad:

Translation:

Annoucer: “They want us to forget the insults we’ve taken, the intolerance. They’ve made us feel marginalized in this country that we love so much. John Mccain and his Republican buddies have two faces, one says lies to attain our votes and the other even worse continues the broken policies of George Bush putting the special interests in front of the interests of working families. John Mccain – more of the same republican lies.”

(thanks to Giodude at the Daily Kos)

First, this ad quotes Rush Limbaugh. Yes, Limbaugh did talk this way about Hispanics; I consider this to be a fair attack on Limbaugh.

He then talks about McCain and the Republicans and mentions that “them” (as a group) have no special love for Hispanic immigrants, which is a fair charge.

The ad doesn’t point out that McCain has caught heat from his party (at times) over immigration reform. But remember that McCain backed away from a bill that he introduced (and worked with Ted Kennedy on); his claim is that people wouldn’t support it until the borders were secure.

But as this blogger points out, this puts McCain in a box. If he stresses his previous record on immigration reform, he risks alienating his right wing supporters. Otherwise he has to swallow the ad.

In short, Obama is using the prejudices of the Republican base against McCain!

How low is this ad? I’d say that it might be on a par with Republican attempts to link Obama with Rev. Wright or Farrakhan; if Obama comes out too strongly against these outspoken African American leaders he risks alienating African Americans. Yes, Farrakhan is the head of a hate group whereas Wright isn’t.

This reminds me a bit of what Hillary Clinton did here: she forced him to come out against Farrakhan

I wonder if McCain will “denounce and reject” Limbaugh? :)

Another similarity might be McCain’s attempt to paint Obama as a close friend of Ayers.

Anyway, I find it amusing to watch the Republicans howl when they get what they usually give.

So if you don’t think that Obama has the stomach to fight, think again.

The days of Democrats being smiling punching bags are long over.

Maybe, just maybe, Bill Clinton whispered something to Barack Obama at their last private meeting? ;)

  1. The age-old pesky U.S.-Mexico border problem has taxed the resources of both countries, led to long lists of injustices, and appears to be heading only for worse troubles in the future. Guess what? The border problem can never be solved. Why? Because the border IS the problem! It’s time for a paradigm change.

Never fear, a satisfying, comprehensive solution is within reach: the Megamerge Dissolution Solution. Simply dissolve the border along with the failed Mexican government, and megamerge the two countries under U.S. law, with mass free 2-way migration eventually equalizing the development and opportunities permanently, with justice and without racism, and without threatening U.S. sovereignty or basic principles.
