State of the Race and other topics
Training I am getting ready to go out and run for about 3-5 miles and follow it with a 2-4 mile walk. In times past I could run after a 4000 yard swim (with difficulty) but those times have seemed to have passed. 
Realistically I won’t be doing the Quad Cities Marathon but there is no reason I can’t do the half marathon (walking).
Education: Things aren’t this bad at my place…yet.
Barack Obama: on the Late Show with Letterman.
538.com: talks about how Palin has affected the race (firmed up Republican support). But most people don’t know her record on the issues.
538.com’s take on the current state of the race: forget Obama winning any really red state, though holding serve on the Kerry states plus winning some subset Iowa, New Mexico, Colorado, Florida, Virginia, Ohio and Indiana would work.
It looks as if we’ll have some work to do. This Saturday, I’ll go door to door for a State House candidate and then leave on an Obama trip this October and on election day.

I use this blog for the following purposes:
- To keep track of my training. I train for ultramarathons (I usually walk these) and sometimes do running races, bicycle rides and open water swims for variety. My best ultra accomplishment was walking 101 miles in 24 hours in 2004. There was a time when I could run a sub 40 minute 10K (did that once), but that was another lifetime ago; these a days 24 minutes for a 5K would be more like it. I also have an off and on interest in yoga.
- From time to time, I post what I am thinking about mathematically
- I often post links to science articles, especially articles about cosmology and evolution.
- I am very sympathetic to the “new atheist” movement, though some might consider me to be an agnostic. I reject any notion of a deity that interferes with physical events, but remain agnostic to the idea that there might be something “grand and wonderful” (Dawkins’ phrase) outside of our current spacetime continuum.
- I am a liberal Democrat who thinks that the current social atmosphere is tilted way too far toward the interests of big business, and I reject the idea that a “free market” cures all ills, though pure socialism doesn’t work either. I am also a believer in the freedom of speech, including speech that I might not like. Also, I’ve been involved (to a moderate degree) with political campaigns, ranging from City Council races up to Presidential races. I back Barack Obama enthusiastically. As far as John McCain: I admire his courage and military service but he simply doesn’t have the ability to grasp the nuances of world affairs; he simply isn’t up to the job.
- Since being targeted by neo-nazis, I’ve started to identify with the anti-racist and the anti-fa movements.
- I like to post photos of trips and vacations.
- I sometimes blog about boxing matches and football games.
- I like women in spandex.

I cant belive the press is slamming the democrats that way. Biden said if the repubs care so much about artistic children they should support stem cell research, the press is reporting comments from the mccain camp that Biden was reffering to palins child that has disabilities, I didn’t know she had a child with disabilities and Biden’s speach sure didn’t give me the idea she did either, this is were the press steps in and defends the republicans by assuring people palin sopports some sort of stem cell research. Then the press comes after Obama for his lipstick coment, “you can put lipstick on a pig” mccain used the same comment about hillary clinton and there was no constant playing of that segment by the press, and Obama didn’t directly front that coment to palin, but in palin’s own words she says “the only difference between a socker mom and a (dog)pittbull is lipstick” hmmm, WTF, is fur and sharp teeth a common trait amongst the two species, one is a dog and one is a human? not according to palin, and what about the fact that (dogs)pittbulls cant speak and stay on their hands and feet(doggystyle)all day, what is she really trying to say?….
