Austin July 2008 Day Two

Workout notes 1 mile open water swim in Barton Springs in 35:55 (9:12, 9:15, 8:42, 8:46). There weren’t a whole lot of strong swimmers there but there were people I could chase and that helped.

Then a 4 mile “run” on the Barton Greenbelt trail: 53:40. No, this wasn’t a misprint; it took me 26:40 to run/stumble/climb the first two rocky miles. I got passed by a couple of trail runners; the interesting thing is that the trail runners all greeted me.

But I did “run” the whole length even if I picked my way through some rocky patches at a snail’s pace.

Barton Springs note: when I got there some woman in a tiny turquoise bikini was doing stretches; the bottom of her suit was hiked so far up it became an “almost thong” (think: Misty May).

I wanted to do the right thing and help her with her suit but spending time in jail isn’t my idea of a good time. :)

I did lap her in the pool though; she was pretty slow. Remember that these are 400 meter laps (200 meter lengths).

Well, time to log the mileage at the running log, shower, blast the Olivia-en-stein out of bed and get on the road.

One quick Political Remark Obama on Wes Clark’s McCain remarks:

“I guess my question is why, given all the vast numbers of things that we’ve got to work on, that that would be a top priority of mine?” Obama said, responding to a reporter who asked the candidate why he hadn’t called on Wesley Clark to apologize for his remarks yesterday. “I’m happy to have all sorts of conversations about how we deal with Iraq and what happens with Iran, but the fact that somebody on a cable show or on a news show like Gen. Clark said something that was inartful about Sen. McCain I don’t think is probably the thing that is keeping Ohioans up at night.”
