Celtics Win Big; some other thoughts

I went to bed and therefore missed the celebration. But it ended 131-92 and Pierce won the MVP.

I am about to go to the Riverplex and swim, bike and run/walk a bit.

Update 2200 yard swim (ok), 2 miles of 200 walk, 200 run, 1 mile (8 laps of lane three) in 9:13 (about 8:45 for the mile), 3 miles on the Michael course outside. I am still avoiding the redwing blackbirds. I might go to yoga class tonight.

Two peas in a pod. :)

One quick note from antropology.net: it turns out that, when it comes to functional stuff, human cultures indeed attempt to optimize. I added the modified “attempt to” because it may be the case where there is no “optimum” and some cultures do some things better than others. But cultures do aim for improvement in functional stuff; they may indeed evolve non functional stuff (e. g., facepaint).

Celtics-Lakers Game 6

Images from the Yahoo NBA Gallery.

The Lakers hung close in the first quarter as they hit most of their shots and the Celtics kept missing. But now it is 43-31 with 5 minutes left in the first half. The Celtic defense is just smothering.

Garnett is shooting better and Rondo has been attacking the basket.

If things hold up as they are going now, my bet is that Pierce will be the MVP. The Celtics are up 49-34, with 2:35 left in the half, but we know how the previous two games have gone, so you can take nothing for granted.

Garnett just hit a one handed, falling down shot and got the foul. He has 17 points with a half to go.

Bryant has played ok and has 14, but he had 11 of those early.
Pierce has 10 points and 9 assists.

But mostly, the Celtics are playing excellent defense and lead 58-35.

Third quarter: it is now 79-48 with about half of the third quarter to go. The Lakers appeared rattled (except for Bryant) and are throwing the ball away.

Make it 84-53 with 3:55 left. In fact, the Lakers are still not up to what the Celtics had at the half.
The third quarter ends 89-60; basically if the Celtics play half-way-decent defense they don’t even have to score again. Pierce and Garnett finish on the bench.

Make it 98-70 with 9:30 to go; Bryant is on the bench at the moment; now it is 101-70 with 9 minutes to go.

Now it is 106-72 with 7 minutes to go; it is all over but finding out who the MVP is. 110-75 with 6 minutes to go; who would have believed this after the game 6 game in Atlanta, where a team with a losing record won its third game against the Celtics?

In fact, I think it is bed time for me; I want to get an early swimming lane. :)

Early Game Blogging

I am watching game 6 of the Celtics and Lakers. Kobe Bryant is on fire and the Celtics are missing shots left and right, yet it is 13-12, Lakers.

Analysis of the following will be light (or lighter than usual).

Science Remember the uncontacted people in South America?

Well, Al Jazeera has a video about this:

Note that the red paint means a “state of war”; evidently that is universal. I admit that shooting arrows at a plane sounds comical to me, but hey, what would we do if aliens with super advanced technology came at us?

The topic of today: gay marriage.

Gay marriage harms traditional marriage. How do I know this? Well, if gays weren’t getting married I wouldn’t be surfing the net for photos of Fernanda Keller or Misty May.

For more perspectives, see Cosmic Variance or the Daily Kos.

Hagee: talks about his perfect woman. Note how he describes the “secular woman”. I wonder if this *ss**le knows that gluttony is a sin?

Pat Robertson weighs in as well.

Note how he brings up the old Sodom and Gomorrah story; he claims that it was homosexuality that was the problem.

But what is there in this story (Chapter 19 of Genesis)

19:1 The two angels came to Sodom in the evening while1 Lot was sitting in the city’s gateway.2 When Lot saw them, he got up to meet them and bowed down with his face toward the ground.

19:2 He said, “Here, my lords, please turn aside to your servant’s house. Stay the night3 and wash your feet. Then you can be on your way early in the morning.”4 “No,” they replied, “we’ll spend the night in the town square.”5

19:3 But he urged6 them persistently, so they turned aside with him and entered his house. He prepared a feast for them, including bread baked without yeast, and they ate. 19:4 Before they could lie down to sleep,7 all the men – both young and old, from every part of the city of Sodom – surrounded the house.8 19:5 They shouted to Lot,9 “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so we can have sex10 with them!”

19:6 Lot went outside to them, shutting the door behind him. 19:7 He said, “No, my brothers! Don’t act so wickedly!11 19:8 Look, I have two daughters who have never had sexual relations with12 a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do to them whatever you please.13 Only don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection14 of my roof.”15

Talk about family values: “hey, don’t rape these men; rape my daughters instead!”

And people wonder why I don’t take the “morals” of the Bible seriously. :)

I wonder what Mr. Robinson thinks about that. (Hat tip to Right Wing Watch)
