Super Tuesday Endorsements

President:

Democrats: Barack Obama (surprised? :) )

Reason: a combination of things. He has the combination of intellect, political skill and love of people to be an inspirational leader. But mostly I like the fact that

  • He realizes that change depends on us. He isn’t running to be our champion but rather to level the playing field
  • He really wants to reach across the red-blue divide. Yes, I know, there is a big part of me that loves being separate from the red state types. But my way is no way to govern; focusing on what we have in common rather than on what divides us might not feed our egos, but it might make the difference on the big issues.

Also qualified: Hillary Clinton.

Ok, intellectually, she is a cut below Obama (O was a Harvard Law Review member, HRC flunked her first bar exam), but she is still bright. I don’t buy this “experience” stuff; Obama actually has more time in a legislature than she does. But, as First Lady, she did have a hand in making appointments to government posts; therefore she has a proven record of knowing how to hire talented people.

When it comes to health care, she probably has a better feel of what she’ll be up against (I really don’t see that much of a difference between the plans).

So if elected, she’ll do a fine job.

Republicans:

Mike Huckabee

Yes, I don’t like his “god-god-god” stuff, and I can’t stand his rejection of science. But he is the only Republican candidate that “gets it”: this current economy just isn’t working for many of our neighbors.

Also qualified: John McCain. He is good on green energy, immigration, being anti-torture, and he knows defense stuff pretty well. He’d be my first choice Republican, except for the fact that he doesn’t seem to get that this economy is not working for many people.
