Spring Break..
Workout notes 3600 yards of swimming; 500 fist warm up (9:10; first 250 was a super sluggish 4:45), 10 x (25 drill, 25 swim). 5 x 200 on the 3:30 (3:12, :11, :11, :10, :11); call me Mr. Consisent! It was tough. 100 easy, 5 x 100 (25 fly, free, back, free) on the 2, 500 pull (8:11), 5 x 100 (free/back/free/back) on the 2.
It was very crowded today; the dog paddlers and those “getting ready” for the indoor tri 8 days hence were there. We also had a couple of younger preening females; the “do one length of tarzan type crawl or pseudo-breast stroke, stop, chat, do another”. It was a complete zoo, and our pool has only 4 lanes.
The good news is that I got to feel very superior by comparison; of course when that happens, I am reminded of my swim meet results (2001 Big Shoulders, 2006 Big Shoulders (out of shape for 2006)), or of the last time a real swimmer spilt a lane with me (their 200 repeats would be something like ONE MINUTE FASTER!)
Dang.
Personal bric-a-brac
Today is the last day prior to spring break, and so I am giving exams and I gave a quiz for someone else. After I give the last exam (about 1 hour from now), I’ll go on a hike of some sort.
Of course it is time for March Madness (the college men’s basketball tournament). Standford, which really didn’t belong in the NCAA, was an early KO, and Virginia Commenwealth knocked out Duke. The latter was interesting to me as my school (with beat Providence in the first round of the NIT) beat VCU during the bracket buster.
As far as the NIT, both Drexel (lost to NC State) and Missouri State (lost to San Diego State) had early exits. So much for them “belonging in the NCAA”; at least crybaby Syracuse rallied to narrowly win at home against South Alabama.
Hillary Clinton
She is still catching flack for her statement about leaving the determination of the morality of homosexuality to others.
I am in quite a state, as you will see. Sometimes writing about the kind of stuff I focus on is damn near impossible. I mean, when events themselves become more cynical than anything I can concoct, why bother.
It’s been that kind of month. No matter where I look I find reality has out-cynicaled me. And it’s not just the usual suspects on the right running amok, either.
For example, this Tuesday Hillary Clinton was asked if she agreed with Joint Chief of Staff, Gen. Peter Pace’s, statement that homosexuality was “immoral.”
And how did our little triangulation hag reply? “I’ll leave that determination to others.”
Oh my. And Hillary, whatya about the genocide in Sudan? You gonna leave that determination to others too? You can bet she would — if there was a large enough block of pro-Sudanese voters here she could round up. That woman is beyond contempt.
Hillary Clinton is nothing less than the anti-Christ of the Democratic Party.
Good lord. Again: whether someone considers homosexual acts immoral or not is their own business. It is OUR business to see that homosexuals are treated fairly; that is, are not discriminated against. And in that department, Hillary Clinton’s record is reasonably good; she is for domestic partnership benefits, for example.
Maybe Senator Clinton wasn’t triangulating but rather speaking her mind!!!!
But this is where she is going to have trouble: she is intellectual (as is Bill and Barack Obama) but she simply doesn’t connect as well with people. Sometimes, she leaves those who have touble thinking in the dust.
