George McGovern at Bradley, says he’d vote for Obama

Workout Notes 3600 yards of swimming; 5 x 100 (fist, back, fist, free) on 2, 5 x 100 (3g, free, 5g, free) on 2:10 or so, 10 x 50 on the :50 (tough), 100 back, 5 x 25 front kick, 75 free on the 2 (1:50-55), 100 back, 10 x 50 on the 1 (golf, 87-91, times were 45-47, strokes 41-44), 100 back, 500 pull in 8:16, 100 back, 8 x 25 fly.

Note: my left hip is somewhat sore today; not sure if it is from the squats that Nancy had us do or from my easy outdoor run. No ache during teaching.

McGovern at Bradley
Long time Senator, Representative, Democratic Presidential nominee (1972), history Ph. D. (Northwestern) and B-24 bomber pilot George McGovern visited Bradley University last night.

Barbara (my wife) and I got there early to get a good seat; many of my friends (from yoga, Bradley, Peoria UU church and Peoria Democrats) were there. The place was reasonably crowded with the middle areas completely filled up.

He didn’t say too much of what I didn’t already know, though he did relay some thoughts about his own failed Presidential bid. He said that he beat out a formidable collection of Democratic candidates for the nomination, though I think this year’s crop (2008) is much better.

Nevertheless, he spoke ill of the current administration and talked about how we should pull out now.

Yes, he did say that the current President is not very able and deserves impeachment.

And, he said that if he were voting for President today, he would vote for Barack Obama. He spoke well of Hillary Clinton, but said that her refusal to admit that she made a mistake on her vote to authorize Bush to go to war is “just killing her chances.”

I am not so sure.

Remember when Bill Clinton was being impeached (and his approval rating being in the 70’s?). Well, it turns out that the Honorable Mr. Gingrich was having an extra marital affair (and admitted to it) while the impeachment hearings were going on! (hat tip to Clonecone at the Daily Kos).

Ok, ok, Clinton was impeached for lying during a deposition during irrelevant testimony during a civil trail about sex. How that is supposed to be a “high crime or misdemeanor” is beyond me. But for many of the wingnuts, it was very much about sex.
