Almost ready to leave

I am going to try to swim; not sure if it will be at Barton Springs or at Deep Eddy.

Update: 1 mile at Barton Springs (4 laps, or 8 lengths). slow (38:15) and the first lap took 9:45. Air temperature was 45 F; I had to be an idiot to do this. But the water felt downright warm when I got in.

Last night’s trip to the Light Festival convinced me that my piriformis is not getting better; I am going to have to go cold turkey with walking and running and cycling for a month or so and then reevaluate.

Bowl games: New Mexico Bowl: San Jose State vs. New Mexico: I pick the Spartans (SJS)
Pappa Johns: USF vs. East Carolina: I pick the Bulls to beat the Pirates
Armed Forces: initially on a hunch I picked the Tulsa Golden Hurricane to beat (and cover the spread) the Utah Utes; it turns out that the computer spread is close (Utes by a half of a point), but the Utes played a tougher schedule and beat TCU and had a narrow loss to TCU.

So, that was a bad pick, but I made it…so I’ll stick with it.

Festival of Lights

Tonight, my mom and Olivia went with me to the Austin Festival of lights.

The good news is that it was mostly a pleasant experience, despite the 30 minutes it took to get through the parking line. The bad news is that my left butt/hip squawked at me for much of the time; it doesn’t like an hour of slow standing around and superslow walking. Still, I made it though I got some funny looks from stopping to do a little bit of yoga; of course some of what I did couldn’t be seen.

The Austin Light Festival; you walked through here to get to the displays.

bonfire, Austin Festival of Lights
Here is the bonfire; it put out lots of heat on a chilly evening.

Frog and Rabbit at the Austin Festival of Lights

I like rabbits and my wife likes frogs; hence this display was fun for me.

Mom with puzzle

Here my mom works on a giant jiggsaw puzzle (3 dimensional) that is on the dining room table.
